Nahanni National Park – Summer 2017
During the Summer of 2017, we visited Nahanni National Park in the Yukon Territory to canoe down the Nahanni River and climb the Lotus Flower Tower. We were accompanied by Garth and Liz, out good friends from back in Adelaide. After a 3 day drive from Calgary to Watson Lake, we took a float plane into the Nahanni River. We paddled 5 days down the river and stopped off to hike up to the Cirque of the Unclimbables. While we subsequently failed on our climbing attempt of the Lotus Flower Tower (due to exhaustion), we enjoyed a couple of days in the Cirque, soaking up the amazing atmosphere. After retracing our steps back to the river, we paddled another 3 days to Virginia Falls, where we took our canoes out of the water, strapped them to a float plane, and flew back to the owner’s fishing lodge, before a quickl flight the next day back to our car. And a 3 day drive back to Calgary!
